Short video clip of Track IR + VE (Vector Expansion) in a Spitfire.

Track IR+ VE IMHO is one of the greatest gaming devices for flight sims ever invented. For me it totally transformed flight sims and I simply will not ever play or fly a sim that does not support it. For me it is equally as important as the use of a joystick in terms of substantially adding to the immersiveness of the game.

BoB2 implements TIR + VE beautifully.

NOTE: In the bottom right corner of the view window click on the small "drop down arrow" to resize the video.

I used FRAPS to record the in-game video clip at 1/2 of my actual gaming resolution (see my sig below). Then used ULEAD's Video Studio 10 Plus to edit and convert and compress to MPEG4 format at a reduced resolion for uploading to Google video.

SeaVee - awesome movie. It is a perfect representation of how cool this game is on the most simple things. I like just cruising around in BOB2. Thanks for taking the time to post this.

Scott.

Great video Seavee. :shock:
Can you explain what vector expansion is? Thanks.

Track IR + VE uses a small clip attached to a standard visor or ball cap to make head movements control the viewpoint in the aircraft along "6 Degrees of Freedom" = up/down; left/right; in/out; roll left/roll right. Vector Expansion thus is the ability to track your head movement along these six axes of motion and reproduce it on the display on the screen. It emulates your head movement so wherever you "look" is where the screen moves.

Like with a mouse, a small movement of the head translates to a large movement on the screen. In combat flight sims this greatly enhances the ability to track targets and feels more natural than panning with a hatswitch or keyboard.

FOV_SMALL = 70.000000
FOV_MEDIUM = 95.000000
FOV_LARGE = 110.000000
FOV_TOGGLE_SMALL = 70.000000
FOV_TOGGLE_LARGE = 110.000000
FOV_INITIAL = 110.000000
FOV_MINIMAL = 25.000000
FOV_MAXIMAL = 110.000000
PC_PITCH = 9.000000
PC_HDG = 9.000000

I play at 1920 X 1080 on a 37" (diagonal) widescreen Westinghouse LVM 37W1 monitor. At times gaming on this beast is better than s3x. Wait, a minute.... I've been with the same woman for 14 years..... Its ALWAYS better than s3x is now. :P

Still fiddling with mine. I play on a 48cm CRT monitor at 1152 x 864. I find that if I move initial view too far back (setting greater than 80), I can't rise up enough to see in the mirror. If I put it less than 60, when I lean forward into the gunsight, I get clipping as though my view were actually in the gunsight.

Guess I'll keep fiddling.

Not sure if this will make a difference but in the BDG.TXT make sure you have this line as follows:

TRACKIR_Z_AXIS_MODE = 0

Its near the top quarter of the Bdg.txt file.

Thanks. Already got that set.

I figured out my problem though. I was editing the wrong axis of the curve in my trackIR profile so all I was doing was making it easier to look down, not up. :oops:

So....the "painted on windscreen" gunsight problem will not ever be solved?
TIR 4 is an amazing device but on BOB:WOV it loose all its "charm" when I move to the left or to the right.
I thought Osram was working on this... :(

Well, at least the off-centered Spit gunsight issue with TIR is now fixed.

I know Osram was working on an improved gunsight but I think got diverted on other higher priority issues.

Now that 2.05 is about finished and Shockwave is actively working on their new game Flying Tigers (based in part on the BoB2 engine) I am certain that BoB2 will benefit from alot of improvements ahead across the board. Scott has even even hinted at some crossover of some elements of the excellent WOP A/C skins and cockpits into BoB2 which would be fantastic.
